In the end I thought it had too much plot, overly brutal violence, and a lead performance from Pegg that wavered between satire and spoof when it should have been one or the other.

So yeah, I have to pick movies that are acclaimed and also favorites of mine, and that doesn't always line up. What do you think of his second feature, HOT FUZZ? Now there's a recent comedy that feels both universally acclaimed by critics and audiences alike and consistently funny over time, each time I revisit it.j.s.noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13294573.post-1067577610044952672015-05-22T23:58:41.093-04:002015-05-22T23:58:41.093-04:00Thanks! Yeah, it's hard, I wanted to add a recent drama to the checklists, but there really aren't any universally beloved/acclaimed non-adaptation dramas from the last decade. This is the closest I could come up with. Normally, I don't like to get in a position where I'm saying, "Well here's why I love it though you may not", because the whole point of this series is to say, "Here's why we all love it."

I had the same issue with "40 Year Old Virgin": I wanted to add a recent comedy, but again I couldn't come up with one that was universally beloved/acclaimed, so that was the closest I could get. Yet you've gradually won me over with your precise painstaking explication of the dramatic writing/storytelling. And this my favorite post you've done about THE FIGHTER yet.j.s.noreply@blogger.com
